Judith Farris Bowman is a divorce attorney and mediator, experienced in litigation and negotiation Judith Farris Bowman
JUDITH FARRIS BOWMAN is a divorce attorney and mediator. Whether representing clients in litigation and negotiation or facilitating agreements as a mediator, she is dedicated to achieving workable solutions to the issues that arise for every family going through the financial and emotional stress of family break-up.

Ms. Bowman graduated from Radcliffe College in 1961 and received her law degree from Columbia Law School in 1974. After three years in the Criminal Appeals Bureau of The Legal Aid Society of New York, she came to Boston to continue appellate work with a Massachusetts criminal law firm. Although Ms. Bowman has always devoted some of her practice to court-appointed criminal appellate and post-convictionwork, litigation on behalf of individuals involved in family law matters and mediation with divorcing or separating families have been the primary focus of her work since 1989. She has also litigated family law cases at the appellate level.

With a particular concern for the impact of divorce on the relationships between children and their parents, Ms. Bowman has dealt with cases involving allegations of sexual abuse and parental alienation, both as a litigator and as a guardian-ad-litem. She is also trained as a parent coordinator. In less highly conflicted cases, common sense and compassion can resolve most struggles around sharing responsibility for children after divorce, if parents are given enough information about the effect of divorce on children at different developmental stages and about the many options available for parenting plans that keep the best interests of the child at the forefront.

Ms. Bowman is admitted to the bar in New York and Massachusetts and to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. She is a member of the Boston Bar Association, where she previously served on the Family Law Steering Committee, and the Massachusetts Bar Association, where she served on the ADR Subcommittee of the Family Law Section. She is a member of the Family Law Section of the American Bar Association and of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation

For a number of years Ms. Bowman has also chaired a committee that selects distinguished women who have graduated from Radcliffe or Harvard to receive awards given by the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study.
